In one of the many interesting departments in Motorworld Stuttgart, I found it – finished in a powerful Dragon Red II and with 22 inch black rims. There is no doubt that the Bentley Bentayga is a solid chunk of car, with just over five meters from snout to hedge and 222 cm in width. The three meter wheelbase is only one Louis Vuitton bag shorter than the entire length of the Fiat Panda I parked next to later on the journey. ATS, You Say?
Lago Maggiore, sun and a light breeze. The Italian spring offers 17 most welcome degrees. I find myself behind the wheel of the ATS GT – the only one of its kind – being the first motoring writer driving it. Just an hour earlier I was warmly welcomed by Daniele Maritan, the man behind the second act in the history of ATS. Continue reading “ATS, You Say?”
This Lamborghini Aventador S Went to Geneva (And Back)
“Welcome to Bologna, Mr. Byberg.” With these kind words, a very special week was initiated. Half an hour later, my driver Piero parked his car outside the Automobili Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and I had already noticed a striking blue Aventador S parked up front. And, as I was greeted by the kind and efficient receptionists and scribbled my name in the required locations on the agreement, I couldn’t help but feeling very, very lucky. I mean, having an Aventador S at your disposal for five days is pretty much fantastic. Never mind the frisky temperatures and somewhat wintery forecasts; this was going to be good! Keeping the Huracán Close to Casa, Dolce Casa
Hmm, I didn’t see that coming. I had just returned the Huracán at the Lamborghini factory and figured out that I had done 400 km in two days. Nothing unusual about that, but I then began thinking about where I’d been and which roads I’d taken. Not once had I been on the autostrada, and, more remarkable, I hadn’t been further than 25 km away from the factory at any time over those two days. Over the Alps and Across the Plains in the Mercedes-AMG GT S
It was almost too good to be true. My contact at the Daimler HQ in Stuttgart had just informed me that a Mercedes-AMG GT S would be ready for me upon my arrival in Stuttgart in late October and that the car was mine to use for two full weeks! My slightly far-fetched idea of doing a grand tour in a sports car out of season actually hit home with Daimler. Continue reading “Over the Alps and Across the Plains in the Mercedes-AMG GT S”
Huracán Spyder vs. The Cold Season
Short notice, off-season, rain imminent – I knew it was far fetched to expect Lamborghini to come up with a test car. So they really made my day when I got the call, saying my car would be ready in half an hour. Continue reading “Huracán Spyder vs. The Cold Season”
Driving the Maserati Levante
On the eve of 4th July 2016, the Maserati Levante got its Norwegian launch, and at nine o’clock the next morning, I was handed the keys to the only Levante in Norway, ready for an hour’s test drive. Having seen and test sat the car the night before, I quickly settled in and set off to the unmistakable rumble of a serious engine. Continue reading “Driving the Maserati Levante”
ATS Stile50: Open Two-Seater, Italian Countryside? Yes, Please
The name ATS will probably ring few bells nowadays, and that has mainly been the case for this tiny Italian car maker since its tumultuous beginnings in the wake of the “Palace Revolution” at Ferrari in 1961. ATS was founded in direct opposition to Ferrari, and the spoken goal was to beat Ferrari at Formula 1, no less. Continue reading “ATS Stile50: Open Two-Seater, Italian Countryside? Yes, Please”
A Day in a Lamborghini Diablo
The last weekend of August saw the first annual meet of Lamborghini Club Norway, a thoroughly enjoyable and valuable experience. For the Saturday drive, four Diablos, three Gallardos, two Murciélago and one Countach, accompanied by a Ferrari 308 Gr. 4 Koenig and a Porsche Boxster, set off from Gol, a popular tourist destination in the heart of Norway. I got a seat in a black-on-black 1991 Diablo with Koenig bumpers and wing — a rare bull. Three hundred kilometres lay ahead of us. Continue reading “A Day in a Lamborghini Diablo”
