The IAA (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung) in Frankfurt is a major happening, especially in the European car scene, and big European brands very often show their finest silver here first. Speaking of silver, Mercedes-AMG’s much anticipated Project One made its first public appearance here, being driven on stage by Lewis Hamilton, where both car and man received well deserved applause.
Another bit of news from Frankfurt was the Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster, arguably the most beautiful Lamborghini on offer. The blue exterior perfectly complemented the white leather interior, a classic roadster look. The modest Lamborghini stand was shared between the S Roadster and the Huracán Performante, which was shown in a surprising and rather striking two-tone livery.
The Ferrari Portofino also got its public launch at the IAA, an important car for Ferrari, as it takes over for the California.
BMW showed their Concept Z4, which has been well received by car journalists and enthusiasts alike.
Bentley’s facelifted Continental GT could bring much needed business their way, and the bolder front grille and rounded rear might appeal to an extended audience of potential clients.
A pleasant surprise from Japan, the Aspark Owl, an all-electric hypercar, caught significant attention, and it will be interesting to see how far this car will reach.
Lastly, another hypercar that had just done 0-400-0 km/h in 42 seconds didn’t get much private time, but then the Bugatti Chiron is used to getting a lot of attention. The special 42 Seconds livery was an interesting variation on a theme.
